Someone once told me that a harsh truth is always better than a beautiful lie. That advice can be extremely difficult to live by, but it has always been worthwhile.

One peice of advice that was given to me long ago is “don’t do good things that appear to be bad” never really understood this.

This is good advice pertaining to the fact that people tend to judge what they see before knowing the truth. Meeting with someone in secret, for example, can be completely innocent while looking suspicious to others. Rumors can start and needlessly ruin one’s reputation.
