“Dinner that evening was wonderfully normal. Julie’s father, Jim, had arrived home from his shift at the rock quarry around 6:00pm, a few hours after Sarah and Julie. Relieved that he had a rare short day, he helped Sarah set the table as Julie shared every detail she could remember about her day. They all took turns talking about anything they wished as they ate, ending the meal on an excited note about tomorrow’s festivities.

Julie went to get ready for bed as her parents cleaned up. Sarah and Jim finished their normal routine, reading Julie to sleep before they settled down for the night. They slept peacefully, unaware of the looming nightmare they would be unable to wake up from.”
